Your shingle roof has taken one hailstorm too many, and you’re tired of wondering whether the next one means another claim. Metal roofing in Denver keeps coming up as the answer, but you’re not sure if it’s worth it, how it handles hail, or whether it’ll sound like a drum every time it rains. Those are smart things to ask before you spend real money on a roof.

You should get straight answers, including the parts a salesperson might skip.

Why Denver homeowners look at metal
Colorado is rough on roofs. The Front Range sees hail most springs and summers, the sun is stronger at altitude, and a winter day can swing from below freezing at dawn to warm and sunny by afternoon. Asphalt shingles take a beating from all of it.
A metal roof handles that mix well when it’s installed right. It sheds snow instead of holding it, it doesn’t lose granules in the sun, and the panels don’t soak up water that freezes and cracks. A well-installed metal roof can also last a lot longer than a typical shingle roof, which matters if you plan to stay in your house.
How metal roofs handle Denver hail
This is the question most Denver homeowners ask first. Hail can dent metal, especially large stones on thinner panels. A dent isn’t the same as a leak, though. On most metal roofs, small dents are cosmetic and the roof keeps doing its job.
A few things affect how well your roof holds up:
- Thicker panels resist denting better than thin ones.
- Many metal products carry an impact rating. Some insurers treat impact-rated roofs differently, so it’s worth asking your agent whether that applies to your policy.
- Textured and stone-coated finishes hide small dents better than smooth, flat panels.
If hail does damage your metal roof, we’ll photograph and measure it, provide an estimate and work with your adjuster. You file your own claim and pay your own deductible. Our hail damage roof repair page covers that process.
Types of metal roofing we install in Denver
Each one fits a different house and budget. You’ll see samples and we’ll explain the tradeoffs before you choose.
Standing seam
Panels run from ridge to eave with raised seams and hidden fasteners, so there are no exposed screws to wear out. It’s the clean, modern look you see on a lot of newer Colorado homes. More on our standing seam metal roofing in Denver page.
Exposed-fastener and corrugated panels
These panels are screwed through the face with rubber-washered screws. They cost less up front and work well on garages, sheds, porches and some homes. The tradeoff is upkeep: the washers age in the sun, and Denver’s daily temperature swings make the panels expand and contract, which can loosen screws over time. Expect to check and replace some fasteners down the road.
Metal shingles and stone-coated steel
These look like shingles, shake or tile from the street but give you the durability of steel. Stone-coated steel has a textured surface that hides hail marks well and keeps the roof quieter in a storm.
Things that matter in a Colorado metal roof
Snow sliding off
Metal sheds snow, which is mostly a good thing. A full slope can let go all at once, though, so snow guards above doors, walkways and decks are worth talking about during the estimate.
Noise
Over a solid deck with underlayment and an insulated attic, a metal roof isn’t much louder than shingles. The loud tin-roof sound comes from panels over open framing, like a barn.
Flashing and penetrations
Most metal roof leaks start at a chimney, vent pipe or wall, not in the middle of a panel. Good flashing at those spots matters more than the panel brand.
Repair or replace your metal roof?
Plenty of older metal roofs just need new fasteners, resealed trim or new pipe boots. If the panels are rusting through, badly damaged or were never installed right, replacement makes more sense. We’ll show you which with photos. When it’s time for a new roof, our metal roof installation team in Denver handles it from tear-off to cleanup.

Questions about metal roofing in Denver
Is a metal roof worth it in Denver?
For many homeowners, yes, especially if you plan to stay put. Metal handles snow, sun and freeze-thaw well and usually lasts longer than shingles. It costs more up front, so it makes the most sense when you’ll be in the house long enough to get that value back.
Will hail ruin a metal roof?
Rarely. Large hail can dent panels, but most dents are cosmetic and don’t cause leaks. Thicker panels and textured finishes hold up best.
Can metal go over my existing shingles?
Sometimes. If your current roof is flat, dry and only one layer, some metal systems can go over it. If there’s soft decking or more than one layer, it all comes off first.
Is a metal roof loud when it rains or hails?
Not on a house with a solid deck and an insulated attic. Most people are surprised how quiet it is.
A roof that rides out the next storm
Putting off a new roof after repeated hail usually means more patching, more claims and more water getting into the deck between storms. You don’t have to decide today, but it helps to know your options before the next storm season.
A hailstorm rolls through at night, you sleep through it, and the attic is dry in the morning. No claim, no surprise bill, and you know you made the right call. Call 720-902-6940 to book your free inspection, or start with a free online estimate.
